Bone Density Test Available at Litzenberg
Have a DEXA Scan Done Locally
Bone density scans are now available at Litzenberg. Rich Hacker, RT, with Central Plains Health Services out of O'Neill, Nebraska will visit Central City twice a month to perform this test.
Patients are referred to the hospital by their doctor to have the DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) scan, which is a 10- to 20-minute test that's easy, quick and painless - just relax on a cushioned bed while a scanner arm passes over your body. DEXA tests measure your hip, spine or total body. These tests are considered the "gold standard" in measuring your bone health. The DEXA test is a highly sensitive scan, and is more comprehensive than the peripheral machines so results are more accurate. This makes the DEXA scan the best way to tell if you have thinning bones.
